The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is a planned art museum that is part of the Saadiyat Island Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is intended to be a branch of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City and to showcase art from around the world. The building itself was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry and is set to consist of a massive domed structure. It is one of several planned museums on the island, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi was first announced in 2006, but construction has been repeatedly delayed. An exact opening date has not yet been announced. (mb)
